Why Sleep Matters

Friday, February 27th, 2009

In support of National Sleep Awareness Week (March 1-8), we at Res-Q would like to educate you on the importance of a good night’s sleep.

So many of us take a good night’s sleep for granted; In fact, many people glamorize how little sleep they get each night, as if running on only three hours makes them stronger or tougher.

Unfortunately the opposite is true. Chronic lack of sleep, by most experts, is now considered dangerous. In fact, “untreated sleep disorders have been linked to hypertension, heart disease, stroke, depression, diabetes and other chronic diseases,” according to the National Institutes of Health. Plant Sterols and Heart Disease

Thursday, February 26th, 2009
Res-Q LDL-x2 is also available with niacin.

Res-Q LDL-x2 is also available with niacin.

In recent years, the Food and Drug Administration approved a health claim for plant sterols and heart disease. The FDA states that “Foods containing at least .65 grams per serving of plant sterol esters, consumed twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least 1.3 grams, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.” A one caplet serving of Res-Q LDL-x2 With Niacin (Res-Q LDL-x2), contains .65 grams of plant sterols, taken twice a day with meals, equals a daily total intake of 1.3 grams of plant sterol esters. The FDA further acknowledges that “the scientific evidence established that including plant sterols in the diet helps to lower blood total and LDL cholesterol levels.”

Plant Sterols are an active ingredient in Res-Q LDL-x2. Res-Q LDL-x2 works in conjunction with Res-Q 1250 to promote good cardiovascular health by promoting circulation and cholesterol well-being. The plant sterols in Res-Q LDL-x2 reduce the absorption of dietary cholesterol and inhibit the re-absorption of body-produced cholesterol. (more…)

Picture of Mom and BabyMore DHA for Healthy Babies!

Omega-3 fatty acids, such as DHA, play a role in producing healthy babies. Mom’s diet is so important to unborn babies, since healthy babies rely on mom’s nutritional diet. Healthy babies also rely on DHA from breast milk.

If mom is deficient in DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, then the baby will be deficient in DHA! Omega-3 fatty acids like DHA, are good beneficial fats that promote brain development. In fact, the majority of the brain is fat of which DHA represents a portion of the brain.

A new randomized, controlled clinical-trial shows that more DHA is better for healthy babies. (more…)

Elevated Blood Sugar and Mental Function

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Could this be the “sugar fog” that I have always heard of?

Recent news!  Elevated levels of sugar in the blood can cause poor mental performance. According to a recent article in The Washington Post, “Researchers found that patients with higher levels of hemoglobin A1C (a measure of average blood glucose levels over 2 to 3 months) had significantly worse results while doing cognitive tasks that tested memory, speed and the ability to manage multiple tasks at the same time. Higher A1C levels were also associated with lower scores on a test of global cognitive function.”

How does the omega-3 in Res-Q 1250 compare to the omega-3 in “omega-3 oil spreads”?

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

It’s possible that healthy omega-3 oil spread could be a good oil to substitute for other oils, for use on your bread. However, don’t think that you can skip taking omega-3 as a supplement. Omega-3 spread does not provide anywhere near enough omega-3 that you can skip taking an omega-3 supplement. As far as obtaining omega-3 for general health benefits attributed to omega 3, it is virtually useless.

We looked at a popular name brand omega-3 spread. The added omega-3 butter substitute spread is not the right type of omega-3 for cardiovascular health!  Res-Q 1250 provides the proper balance of EPA and DHA, (omega-3 fatty acids) for cardiovascular health. In fact, most omega-3 fortified foods do not contain any EPA and DHA at all! (more…)
