What is Pomegranate?

The pomegranate fruit, also known as Punica granatum L., is from a small long-living tree. For good health, pomegranate has been consumed since ancient times. Pomegranate fruit may be found in various locations throughout the world including parts of the United States, Southeast Asia, and Africa.

A few of the beneficial components of pomegranate include: ellagic acid, punicic acid, flavonoids, anthocyanidins, anthocyanins, flavonols and flavones. Ellagic acid is a popular active constituent of pomegranate that provides antioxidant action and cell health benefits.

The powerful antioxidant action of pomegranate may be synergistic. The health benefits of pomegranate are not attributed to any single component of the fruit. It is believed that the health benefits are attributed to the multiple, natural properties of the pomegranate fruit working together.

In ancient times, pomegranate was regarded as a mystical fruit having special powers such as good luck. In fact, Granada, in Spain, gets its name from the pomegranate fruit and pomegranate is the symbol of this ancient city.

Pomegranate fruit may be especially useful to help maintain health in the following areas: cardiovascular health, diabetes and Alzheimer’s  disease.  Extracts of pomegranate fruit promote good health by acting as scavengers for free radicals, promoting antioxidant activity and decreasing lipid peroxidation.

Adding the power of the pomegranate fruit to the power of the Acai fruit, produces a powerful antioxidant supplement. Res-Q Mega Acai, a potent antioxidant dietary supplement, contains extracts of Acai fruit, pomegranate fruit, and green tea leaf. The combination of these ingredients produces superior antioxidant activity thus providing Res-Q customers with the best antioxidant supplement available today.
