All month, we will be talking about your heart and ways in which you can love it even more than you already do!
The power to change your life is yours.
You may not be able to change the fact that you’re growing older, but you can change other major risk factors associated with heart disease that may decrease your chances of developing heart problems. Let’s face it. Certain risk factors can’t be changed. Age, gender and heredity are all risk factors of heart disease that we have no control over. But there are factors that we do have control over and that can be decreased by changing our lifestyle. According to the American Heart Association they are:
- Tobacco smoke
- High blood cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Physical inactivity
- Obesity and overweight
- Diabetes mellitus
- Stress
- Drinking too much alcohol
Do you smoke? Are you overweight? How often do you exercise? Each week, we’ll be talking about the effects of these risk factors and how you can work towards preventing them or simply changing your lifestyle to reflect a healthier you.
The first step, however, begins here, and it’s the most important along the journey to better health: you must promise yourself that you will work towards change because you can change.
Happy Heart Health Month!
