In fact, high cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease and the higher your cholesterol is, the greater your chance of developing atherosclerosis, fatty deposits formed from cholesterol that collect in the arteries and restrict blood flow. According to the American Heart Association, “As blood cholesterol rises, so does risk of coronary heart disease.”

Some scientists have noted a relationship between coronary heart disease risk and stress in a person’s life, their health behaviors and socioeconomic status. Lpa is an independent predictor of the risk of cardiovascular disease.  Similar to LDL cholesterol, Lpa is a lipoprotein that contains cholesterol and can be damaging to the arteries. The Lpa is a tiny particle that circulates in the blood. These small particles of cholesterol are thought to be very damaging to the arteries if levels are elevated.

It is very important to maintain a healthy blood sugar level, rather than an elevated one. Elevated blood sugar can damage the blood vessels. Therefore, maintaining a healthy blood sugar level can help maintain healthy blood vessels.

Diabetics can benefit from Vitamin C intake. In a recent diabetic study, normalizing the blood sugar with insulin therapy was not enough to repair the damage that was done to the blood vessels. However, when Vitamin C was given in addition to the therapy, the blood vessels were better!
