Omega-3 News: Omega-3s and Cholesterol

Friday, July 11th, 2008
Are you taking a statin medication for cholesterol?
If so, you should be taking an omega-3 supplement.

A randomized placebo-controlled clinical study revealed that adding 4 grams of omega-3 EPA/DHA to statin drug therapy, can reduce triglycerides by almost 30%!

Obviously statin drugs are not enough.  Adding beneficial nutrients to a statin drug improves the outcome.

Taking omega-3 EPA and DHA did not raise the LDL cholesterol and it is interesting to note that after 8 weeks of supplement use, the LDL particle size was larger in the group taking omega-3. It is thought that the size of cholesterol (the size of the LDL), may be important to know, just like the amount of cholesterol, the cholesterol number (Example: LDL, non-HDL, and Total Cholesterol) is important to know.   A larger cholesterol-size may be less likely to harm the arteries, then a smaller cholesterol-size. Healthy Arteries: It is more than just cholesterol - the role of the triglycerides in arterial health

Looking at multiple heart health factors provides more ways to help maintain healthy arteries and a strong heart for a more complete look: the big picture.  The Res-Q product line offers a more complete approach to total cardiovascular health.

The American Heart Association defines triglycerides as, “the chemical form in which most fat exists in food as well as in the body.”

Since triglycerides affect the total cholesterol number, you should know your triglyceride number.

Learn more about triglycerides

Scientific evidence demonstrates the effectiveness of the omega-3 fatty acids.  According to the New England Journal of Medicine, the results for the fish-oil group were “…triglyceride (-64 percent), as compared with the control diet.”

Res-Q customers have been able to continue to maintain triglyceride levels within the normal range with Res-Q 1250, our safe and pure omega-3 fatty acid dietary supplement.

Res-Q 1250 provides an omega-3 potency level that would be difficult to achieve otherwise.  Our diets may be low in omega-3 fish.  Even if we eat fish, it would be difficult to achieve the effective amounts of omega-3 used in the clinical studies and provided by Res-Q 1250.

I always recommend that you buy at least two bottles of Res-Q 1250 the first time you order and order more Res-Q 1250 before you have one bottle left. Taking the correct dosage, and taking it every day consistently is very important to health maintenance.

Complete Heart Health Part II: HDL and Heart Health

Healthy Arteries: the role of good cholesterol, HDL, in arterial health

Res-Q HDL+, a unique, natural, No-Flush niacin, is the best form of niacin. Our customers have had health benefits from just 2 capsules per day: one capsule in the AM and one capsule in the PM. Some doctors recommend more.

The Res-Q product line offers a more complete approach to total cardiovascular health. Looking at multiple factors offers more ways to help maintain healthy arteries.

Do you know your “good cholesterol” number, called HDL?

According to The National Institute of Health:

“an HDL level less than 40mg is …a major risk factor…”

and

“the higher, the better.”

HDL “picks up” cholesterol in the bloodstream and disposes of it. Having more of it or having a higher number is a good thing because the good HDL cholesterol helps promote healthy arteries by trying to keep the LDL cholesterol from “building up in the walls of the arteries.”

People Taking Statins also Need CoQ10

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Res-Q CellPower It is important to take a CoQ10 supplement with a statin, a specific type of cholesterol lowering pharmaceutical medication that inhibits cholesterol production in the liver via HMG-CoA Reductase.  Statin medications have been shown to lower CoQ10 levels. Therefore, it would be wise to take a CoQ10 supplement when taking a statin.

Res-Q CellPower contains CoQ10 and other heart-healthy antioxidants. Since CoQ10 is essential for healthy muscles, CoQ10 may reduce muscle-related side effects from the medications. CoQ10 also helps heart function, which is also important for maintaining cardiovascular health.  Heart health is about more than just cholesterol. Even if your cholesterol is lowered, supplementing with CoQ10 helps inhibit the oxidation of cholesterol to help maintain healthy arteries.

Did you know…

Lovastatin, a popular drug medication, has been shown to deplete CoQ10 in rats and in humans.

Treatment with Pravachol and Zocor, statin drug medications, lowered blood levels of CoQ10 in humans. Although cholesterol was lowered, CoQ10 was also lowered.

CoQ10 has “antioxidative properties” and promotes celluar energy.

Inhibiting the “biosynthesis” of cholesterol can also inhibit the “biosynthesis” of CoQ10. Therefore, it would be wise to supplement with CoQ10 when taking anything that inhibits the enzyme involved in the production of cholesterol in the liver, such as a statin medication.

Res-Q CellPower is recommended for anyone taking a statin medication.
