Choosing the Best Fish Oil Product

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Important things to consider when buying high quality fish oil

Because there are so many choices on the market when it comes to fish oil, the idea of purchasing the best can be a little daunting. They all vary in capsule size, capsule count, potency, processing, purity levels and even what type of fish was used. Here are some important factors to consider!

Fish or Flax?
Fish oil is still recognized for one thing–the omega-3 fats: EPA and DHA, the “long-chain forms of omega-3” in fish, calamari or algae. Walnuts, flaxseed, canola and soybean contain the short-chain form of omega-3, which has to be converted to long-chain in “order to make use of it …” And while flax and walnuts are great for a vegan diet, studies show that they do not have the potency or power of long-chain forms of omega-3s, which have been found to have a more profound effect on lowering cholesterol and improving heart health. What?! 4-6 capsules daily?

Monday, August 1st, 2011

One of the questions we received the other day in an e-mail was “Why take 4-6 capsules of Res-Q 1250 per day? That number seems pretty high for omega-3s.” The customer admitted she was used to a much smaller dose and 4-6 caps seemed a little intimidating.

Here was our response:

1-3 capsules, daily: (more…)

Cheaper Omega-3s are Not Always Better!

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

I can’t tell you how many people I meet who proudly tell me they take omega-3s for better health. I pat them on the back and tell them that’s great news! Years of research has shown that the molecules in omega-3s (EPA and DHA) are responsible for enormous health benefits. But then,  they mention that they’re taking some cheap, over-the-counter fish oil, to which I frantically reply: that’s defeating the purpose! You simply cannot buy just any fish oil. It would be like buying potato chips for good health as opposed to spinach or an apple.

So, why do people turn to poor quality, over-the-counter fish oil supplements? Two reasons: price and the misbelief that any omega-3 product will work. Here’s some facts to help dispel both myths. (more…)

What’s the Difference Between EPA and DHA?

Monday, December 27th, 2010

As published by the Point Institute, “It is often thought that EPA and DHA have identical benefits in preventing cardiovascular risk, and since commercial products often have higher EPA concentrations, many believe EPA must be of greater benefit.” On the other hand, some people feel that DHA is the better of the two omega-3 fatty acids. DHA is very effective at reducing heart rate and blood pressure, and increasing the LDL particle size (a larger particle size is better for the arteries). Since the 1980s, clinical trials comparing EPA and DHA have emerged. Some studies favored EPA while others favored DHA. Let’s find out what they have in common:   (more…)

Res-Q 1250 Capsules

Recently, on ABC’s World News online, a news report stated that omega-3 fatty acids actually help to slow “biological aging.”

The omega-3 fatty acids help protect DNA from damage.  Not only is omega-3 good for the heart, it is also good for extending your lifespan.

But did you know that you can get omega-3 from several different sources? Omega-3 can be found in fish (herring), plants (flaxseed) and even nuts (walnuts).

So, how do you determine the most powerful source of these miracle molecules? And, which kind of omega-3 is responsible for a longer life? (more…)

Omega-3 News: Omega-3 and Dyslexia

Res-Q Calamarine for brain and eyes

Dyslexia is a brain disorder that includes trouble with visual processing. Individuals with dyslexia are more likely to suffer from a decreased ability to see during dim light conditions and adapt to the change from light to dark.

One month of omega-3 from fish oil improved night vision
Omega-3 from fish oil, given to adults with dyslexia, improved scotopic vision, the type of vision, pertaining to the rods of the retina, and used during dim-light conditions.  DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, is found in the rod cell membranes. The rods of the retina are used to see when there is very little light.

Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids are found in retinal cell membranes. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. It is very important to prevent omega-3 fatty acid deficiencies. Therefore only a high-potency supplement derived from fish oil and rich in long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, may be used to help restore omega-3 deficiencies. For more information about about Res-Q’s omega-3 supplements, please call 1-800-26-ALIVE.

How do you know that your omega-3 supplement is being absorbed?

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009
In order for an omega-3 supplement to work, it has to be digested, enter the bloodstream, and go to work inside the body performing the health benefits of omega-3: lower triglycerides, a healthy heart rhythm, elastic blood vessels, and reduced inflammation.

Measurabe Results (Cholesterol Lowering)

Scientists can tell that an omega-3 supplement is being absorbed and is performing well in the body by evaluating the measurable results of the omega-3 product in clinical studies such as lowered blood levels of triglycerides, and reduced c-reactive protein levels, an inflammation factor. There are measurable tests that can be performed. (more…)

Omega-3 News: DHA has anti-inflammatory benefits

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
DHA helps counteract the body’s inflammatory response.  Therefore, not only do you need the omega-3 fatty acid EPA for anti-inflammatory health benefits, but new research shows that you also need the omega-3 fatty acid DHA. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are the active ingredients found in fish oils.

It was reported by the news, that DHA, an active omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oils, is converted into Resolvin D2 ,and in the medical journal Nature, how Resolvin D2 plays a role in reducing the body’s inflammatory response  that leads to poor arterial  health. (more…)
