If you are taking calcium for bone health, then you should also take an omega-3 supplement. “Several studies evaluating n-3 PUFA ranging from 3 to 6 g/day showed a modest, but rather consistent beneficial effect of these fatty acids in joint disease.”2 (more…)

More DHA for Healthy Babies!
Omega-3 fatty acids, such as DHA, play a role in producing healthy babies. Mom’s diet is so important to unborn babies, since healthy babies rely on mom’s nutritional diet. Healthy babies also rely on DHA from breast milk.
If mom is deficient in DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, then the baby will be deficient in DHA! Omega-3 fatty acids like DHA, are good beneficial fats that promote brain development. In fact, the majority of the brain is fat of which DHA represents a portion of the brain.
A new randomized, controlled clinical-trial shows that more DHA is better for healthy babies. (more…)

High DHA Supplement
Res-Q’s omega-3 supplements provide more omega-3s for less. Safe to take when pregnant and breastfeeding, Res-Q’s omega-3 supplements can be recommended when other supplements cannot. Studies show that omega-3 is so beneficial that the idea of not obtaining omega-3 when pregnant may cause more harm than good.
Due to water pollution, pregnant women cannot obtain enough omega-3 from fish due to concern over heavy metals. The Res-Q omega-3 dietary supplement is a purified, safe form of omega-3. Metals and oxidative impurities are removed through a specialized purification process.
A new study shows more DHA is better. By comparing vision at four months of age, and dividing the infants into multiple groups, a new study sheds light on the subject of just how much omega-3 pregnant women need. Babies fed a higher dose of DHA compared with a lower dose of DHA, had better vision.
Omega-3 fats promote visual development in babies and are a very beneficial supplement for women to take on a regular basis. The study determined that one gram of DHA was better than the typical dose used, which is far less.
How much omega-3s do I need?
Since the optimal amount of omega-3s remains to be established, pregnant and nursing women should consult their doctor for dosage recommendations and for administration to children under one year of age. It is still very important to work closely with your doctor regarding dietary requirements for infants, and make sure that your doctor knows what supplements you take. Many mothers are deficient in DHA throughout their pregnancy which translates to DHA deficiency in their children at birth, thus they may benefit from DHA supplementation.
We recommend that nursing mothers and pregnant women discuss the dosage of omega-3 with their physician.
Supplementation is most beneficial in the early stages of pregnancy. Even if you are thinking about becoming pregnant, it is a good idea to supplement.

FACT: Researchers in Norway found that when 14 healthy male volunteers took equivalent amounts of omega-3 as ethyl esters or glycerol esters (triglyceride form), the absorption from both forms of omega-3 was just as good. As reported in the medical journal, “Thus, after administration twice daily for 14 days, the amounts of EPA and DHA in total serum lipids and in serum phospholipids were essentially identical for the two ester forms of the n-3 fatty acids.” 1
FACT: Another human study comparing the absorption of omega-3 fatty acids in the form of ethyl esters or triglycerides, showed that both were well absorbed and had produced results. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, “This study showed that n-3 fatty acids in fish oil given as ethyl esters or triglycerides were equally well absorbed.”2
FACT: A 14 day study of 101 people taking 5.1 grams per day of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA as ethyl esters showed beneficial results. The beneficial metabolites of fish oils are the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. Results are dependent on the amount of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) consumed. 3 (more…)
