Health Benefits of Resveratrol

Artery Health

Studies on resveratrol show that cholesterol that has become oxidized or chemically altered promotes the inflammatory process harming the blood vessel wall. Resveratrol has been shown in studies to promote blood-vessel function and circulation by promoting the relaxation of the blood vessel and by inhibiting the oxidation of cholesterol thus balancing the amount of inflammation in the blood.

By relaxing the blood vessel, circulation and blood flow to the heart is improved.

Heart Health

Resveratrol has been shown in a recently released study to inhibit the effects of aging on the heart, helping to maintain a healthy heart function. Since the effects of aging on the heart can lead to death and everyone ages, natural ingredients that would help play a role in keeping the heart young, fighting the toll that age takes on the heart, would be fundamental to achieving a longer mortality and staying in good health. Resveratrol has been shown in studies to do just that.  Researchers studied the age-inhibiting effects of resveratrol and noticed that resveratrol affected several of the same genes also affected by calorie restriction. Hundreds of genes were affected by resveratrol.

Living Longer

Resveratrol affects gene expression. By influencing certain genes, calorie restriction promotes longevity. By affecting the same genes, resveratrol promotes longevity the same way. Clinical studies show that resveratrol, a natural component of red grape skins, helps regulate the aging process, by activating a gene called SIRT1 that is also found in humans. Activating the SIRT1 gene produces the anti-aging effects.

Resveratrol has been shown in studies to dramatically increase the lifespan of many living things. Additionally, mice given resveratrol, “lived 30% longer”, did not get ill, and despite being on a high fat diet, lived like a healthy mouse, and did not get heart disease.

Liver Health

The effects of a high-fat diet lead to obesity, insulin resistance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. However, resveratrol has helped defend against these bad effects caused by the diet, including helping to maintain a healthy liver by inhibiting the accumulation of fat.

Brain Health

As an antioxidant, resveratrol supports a healthy brain, cells, and blood vessels by neutralizing free radicals. Over time the effects of excess free radicals may lead to poor health, mild memory loss associated with the natural process of aging, and even poor arterial health.

A study published in Nueroreport showed resveratrol’s great potential to actually help maintain healthy brain function as we grow older. “The combination of resveratrol and vitamin C and/or E was more effective in protecting the cell than was any of these three antioxidants alone.”

Blood Sugar Health

Recent research on resveratrol reveals that it may help the normal function of blood sugar metabolism, helping blood sugar to get into the cells.

Other Benefits:

The effects of a high fat diet led to obesity, insulin resistance, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

There has been talk about the high fat diet found in France and the high consumption of red wine. Did the red wine play a role in their health despite consumption of a high-fat diet?

Mice on a high-fat diet that took resveratrol as a supplement were healthier and enjoyed running on their treadmills more. Also, when fat cells were exposed to resveratrol, there were less fat cells compared to fat cells that were not exposed to resveratrol. Does this mean that resveratrol would be a good supplement to take if you are on a weight-loss program?

Tthe amount of resveratrol used in the studies is far more than the tiny amounts of resveratrol found naturally in red wine, or red grape skins. Our red wine extract, an ingredient of Res-Q Resveratrol, is not made from the wine. It is made from the red grapes that are used to produce red wine and is a potent, concentrated source of resveratrol that can not be found in the diet.
