Cheaper Omega-3s are Not Always Better!

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

I can’t tell you how many people I meet who proudly tell me they take omega-3s for better health. I pat them on the back and tell them that’s great news! Years of research has shown that the molecules in omega-3s (EPA and DHA) are responsible for enormous health benefits. But then,  they mention that they’re taking some cheap, over-the-counter fish oil, to which I frantically reply: that’s defeating the purpose! You simply cannot buy just any fish oil. It would be like buying potato chips for good health as opposed to spinach or an apple.

So, why do people turn to poor quality, over-the-counter fish oil supplements? Two reasons: price and the misbelief that any omega-3 product will work. Here’s some facts to help dispel both myths. (more…)

Res-Q 1250 Capsules

Recently, on ABC’s World News online, a news report stated that omega-3 fatty acids actually help to slow “biological aging.”

The omega-3 fatty acids help protect DNA from damage.  Not only is omega-3 good for the heart, it is also good for extending your lifespan.

But did you know that you can get omega-3 from several different sources? Omega-3 can be found in fish (herring), plants (flaxseed) and even nuts (walnuts).

So, how do you determine the most powerful source of these miracle molecules? And, which kind of omega-3 is responsible for a longer life? (more…)

Res-Q Calamarine for brain and eyes

Dyslexia is a brain disorder that includes trouble with visual processing. Individuals with dyslexia are more likely to suffer from a decreased ability to see during dim light conditions and adapt to the change from light to dark.

One month of omega-3 from fish oil improved night vision
Omega-3 from fish oil, given to adults with dyslexia, improved scotopic vision, the type of vision, pertaining to the rods of the retina, and used during dim-light conditions.  DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, is found in the rod cell membranes. The rods of the retina are used to see when there is very little light.

Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids are found in retinal cell membranes. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. It is very important to prevent omega-3 fatty acid deficiencies. Therefore only a high-potency supplement derived from fish oil and rich in long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, may be used to help restore omega-3 deficiencies. For more information about about Res-Q’s omega-3 supplements, please call 1-800-26-ALIVE.

Omega-3 News: DHA has anti-inflammatory benefits

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009
DHA helps counteract the body’s inflammatory response.  Therefore, not only do you need the omega-3 fatty acid EPA for anti-inflammatory health benefits, but new research shows that you also need the omega-3 fatty acid DHA. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are the active ingredients found in fish oils.

It was reported by the news, that DHA, an active omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oils, is converted into Resolvin D2 ,and in the medical journal Nature, how Resolvin D2 plays a role in reducing the body’s inflammatory response  that leads to poor arterial  health. (more…)

Picture of Mom and BabyMore DHA for Healthy Babies!

Omega-3 fatty acids, such as DHA, play a role in producing healthy babies. Mom’s diet is so important to unborn babies, since healthy babies rely on mom’s nutritional diet. Healthy babies also rely on DHA from breast milk.

If mom is deficient in DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid, then the baby will be deficient in DHA! Omega-3 fatty acids like DHA, are good beneficial fats that promote brain development. In fact, the majority of the brain is fat of which DHA represents a portion of the brain.

A new randomized, controlled clinical-trial shows that more DHA is better for healthy babies. (more…)

Omega-3 News: Pregnant Women and Baby’s Vision

High DHA Supplement

Res-Q’s omega-3 supplements provide more omega-3s for less. Safe to take when pregnant and breastfeeding, Res-Q’s omega-3 supplements can be recommended when other supplements cannot. Studies show that omega-3 is so beneficial that the idea of not obtaining omega-3 when pregnant may cause more harm than good.

Due to water pollution, pregnant women cannot obtain enough omega-3 from fish due to concern over heavy metals. The Res-Q omega-3  dietary supplement is a purified, safe form of omega-3. Metals and oxidative impurities are removed through a specialized purification process.

A new study shows more DHA is better. By comparing vision at four months of age, and dividing the infants into multiple groups, a new study sheds light on the subject of just how much omega-3 pregnant women need. Babies fed a higher dose of DHA compared with a lower dose of DHA, had better vision.

Omega-3 fats promote visual development in babies and are a very beneficial supplement for women to take on a regular basis. The study determined that one gram of DHA was better than the typical dose used, which is far less.

How much omega-3s do I need?
Since the optimal amount of omega-3s remains to be established, pregnant and nursing women should consult their doctor for dosage recommendations and for administration to children under one year of age. It is still very important to work closely with your doctor regarding dietary requirements for infants, and make sure that your doctor knows what supplements you take. Omega-3 Fatty Acid Consumption Encourages Good Eye Health

Res-Q Calamarine for brain and eyes

According to a population study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, there is a connection between omega-3 consumption and eye health, specifically with regard to risk of developing dry eyes.

Over 32,000 women surveyed, answered a food frequency questionnaire.

Those who had consumed higher intakes of a specific omega-3 fish as frequently as 2-4 times a week, those with a higher intake of omega-3, and those with highest DHA intake were less likely to get dry eye syndrome, compared with lower intake of omega-3 fatty acids. (more…)

Triglycerides Versus Ethyl Esters: Fact or Fiction?

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

FACT
: Researchers in Norway found that when 14 healthy male volunteers took equivalent amounts of omega-3 as ethyl esters or glycerol esters (triglyceride form), the absorption from both forms of omega-3 was just as good. As reported in the medical journal, “Thus, after administration twice daily for 14 days, the amounts of EPA and DHA in total serum lipids and in serum phospholipids were essentially identical for the two ester forms of the n-3 fatty acids.” 1

FACT: Another human study comparing the absorption of omega-3 fatty acids in the form of ethyl esters or triglycerides, showed that both were well absorbed and had produced results. According to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, “This study showed that n-3 fatty acids in fish oil given as ethyl esters or triglycerides were equally well absorbed.”2

FACT: A 14 day study of 101 people taking 5.1 grams per day of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA as ethyl esters showed beneficial results. The beneficial metabolites of fish oils are the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. Results are dependent on the amount of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) consumed. 3 (more…)

Omega-3 News: Omega-3 and Stress Reduction

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Are omega-3 fatty acids a good supplement to take for stress relief?

The omega-3 fatty acid DHA has been shown in human studies to help with the effects of stress. Stress causes changes to take place including aggression and hostility and the omega-3 fatty acid called DHA, a good fat found in fish oils, helped combat some of these changes. Those who took 1.5 grams of DHA daily for 6 weeks had a much better response to stress than those who did not receive any treatment at all. Do the good fats, such as omega-3’s, help us cope with stress better?

Further clinical studies show that consumption of fish oils containing DHA help counteract the increased production of inflammation, and a fight or flight stress hormone that occurs when under stress.

Is this just one more reason that we need to restore the right balance of fats in our diet for better health and function? (more…)
